Last September 14 marked my|phone’s 11th year anniversary. It started with a dream of making phones accessible to everyone and has been one of the longest-running local phone companies ever since.

The brand rose during a time when majority of Pinoy phone-holders were either the upper crust people, secondhand owners, or thieves. Owning something essential to modern life was expensive, so in 2007, my|phone created their first phone model: a dual-sim phone, and sold it at a price that’s the same or is cheaper than a secondhand phone. This gave the majority of the Filipinos the pride and joy of finally owning a brand new phone and the title of Hari ng Dual Sim.

my|phone continued to create phones for the masa but they didn’t stop there. In 2009, they developed the Pinoy App: a pre-installed application in all their phones that have local riddles, songs, prayers, and more. This cemented the brand as a Pinoy phone. Later in 2011, they also created phones with fake money readers to help everyone prevent being tricked by bad people.  There are more in between like a portable TV in their phones, emergency phones that suit our typhoon seasons, and even free accidental death insurances for customers, but the intention is all the same: to serve with Filipinos in mind.

Even when turning into a multimedia company in 2016, my|phone kept their vision. They created an app called AGILA Rewards that not only makes a good advertising medium but also is a rewards system for both my|phone and non-my|phone users.  More apps with the intention of lifting Filipinos up are on its way.

From creating a dual-sim phone to a multimedia company pushing envelopes, my|phone is a brand that is committed to giving the Filipinos the best of technology. Metamorphosis, a one-day pop-up store featuring Filipino brands, was opened in the Green Sun last July 25, 9 am to 12 midnight. The hotel created the event to boost support for Filipino brands.

  Inside the store are fashion and lifestyle brands, art installments, a cafe, and a restaurant. All transactions in Metamorphosis were done using an app called PayMaya, where buyers scanned QR codes of the store to pay.

  “Metamorphosis will change how you see Pilipinas brands; it is a place that showcases the best lifestyle brands around the country,” David Lim, President of my|phone, says.

The section dedicated to Styled Pop-up include Luna Jewels, Ivona Fine Jewelry, Styled ETC, Inspirar, Sheica, VM Vorge and Marco, TGLL, Fashion Hub by Dayan Hernandez, Daily Schedule, and Moxie. Designer fashion clothing and accessories by Joel Escobar, Gabbie Sarenas, Jor-el Espina, Filip + Inna, Jaggy Glarino, Tracy Dizon, Tipay Caintic, Ivarluski Aseron, Jojie Lloren, Michelline Syjuco, Adante Leyesa, Joyce Makitalo, Juan Carlo Evaristo, Ken Samudio, Micki Olaguer, , Zara Juan, Arnel Papa, Jul B. Dizon, and Maco Custodio . Also featured is an art installment by Leeroy New, Liliana Manahan, Stanley Ruiz, Tal de Guzman, Wataru Sakuma, and Manu Respall. The event is one of many under Green Sun that will feature Filipino brands. “Green Sun will become the house of all things beautiful and Filipino. We’ll be the House of Chanel of Filipino products,” David continues.

Manila – Now a Certified Kapuso Actress, Devon Seron inked her seventh year as a MyPhone endorser last Saturday, June 16, with Inyi Yruma, Marketing Head and Kevin Tan, Vice President of the no. 1 Filipino phone brand. She’s also one of the image ambassadors of Solid Group’s Brown&Proud Filipino Movement.

Tropa Tambayan Live aims to provide additional learning, seek out new trends, get different views on certain topics, and give a new channel for entertainment to solid Ka-Tropa’s. The first episode of Tropa Tabayan talked about tips for the rainy season, the Anti-Discrimination Law, Cyber Bullying and FREE Education among others. There were also fun games where both studio audience and online viewers have benefitted from. Inna, a part of the studio audience, and Anna, an online viewer won the jackpot at the “MyPhone o Kahon” Segment where they both won a brand new fake money reader phone, an Android phone, gift certificate from YSA Skin and Body Experts, David’s Salon, Chubs Chasers, GoWiFi and cash. DJ Chacha on the other hand will host a new online show for Brown&Proud.

In what may be described as a case of David winning over Goliath, technology giant Apple Inc. has lost its trademark battle against local startup Solid Broadband, the company behind the MyPhone line of mobile phones.
In a decision on May 19, the Intellectual and Property Office (IPO) ruled against Apple’s claim that MyPhone, which was first launched in 2007, was a copycat of its iPhone model. This is a case of a giant trying to claim more territory than what it is entitled to, to the great prejudice of a local ‘Pinoy Phone’ merchant who has managed to obtain a significant foothold in the mobile phone market through the marketing and sale of innovative products under a very distinctive trademark,” the decision read. Apple had complained of Solid Broadband’s application for trademark, citing “confusingly similar” resemblance to the iPhone, which it said was “likely to deceive or cause confusion.” But IPO said there was no sufficient proof to conclude that there was a confusing similarity between the two lines: “While the marks are similar with respect to the word (‘phone’), it is not sufficient to conclude that confusion among the consumers is likely to occur. ‘Phone’ is a generic term for mobile phones products.” “The fame and popularity of iPhone in fact makes it improbable for one to confuse MyPhone product as an iPhone,” it added.

NoInk adds to ABS-CBN’s growing list of digital platforms as the country’s leading media and entertainment company transitions to become an agile digital company with a greater reach and presence online. Lopez said this partnership between the Philippines’ leading publisher of lifestyle magazines and books and the pioneering Filipino mobile phone brand marks a milestone for ABS-CBN Publishing. “This is the first time that our product will be pre-installed in mobile phones. We are very happy to be partnering with a trusted phone brand in our goal of bringing engaging experiences and trending content to the public in a more interactive manner,” said Lopez.
